In 1979, the 1G (1st Generation wireless) Analog wireless phones came online. Twelve years later in 1991 2G (2nd Generation wireless) came online and allowed for digital phones providing text and picture messages.
In just seven years. in 1998, 3G wireless service became available. With 3G (3rd Generation wireless) mobile internet access and video calls were now available.
Within ten years, in 2008, 4G (4th Generation wireless) became the craze with access to gaming and HD (High Definition) mobile television.
In a matter of eight years, in July 2016, 5G (5th Generation wireless) was introduced. In the world of telecommunications, 5G (5th generation wireless) technology standard for broadband cellular networks, which cellular phone companies began deploying worldwide in 2019, have become widely available.
5G networks are the planned successor to the 4G networks which provide connectivity to most current cellphones. However, 4G cellphones are not able to use the new 5G networks, which require 5G enabled wireless devices. 5G networks are predicted to have more than 1.7 billion subscribers worldwide by 2025
